The Little Book Shop: Always Up For A Great Read!
The Little Book Shop opened its doors in June 2022, becoming Auckland’s latest independent book store offering. A passion project of sorts, the store is located in the wonderfully redeveloped Mews Precinct at 415 Remuera Road and has its sights set on becoming a resounding feature of the Remuera retail landscape – a haven for the community at large.
Our erstwhile team of bibliophiles is passionate about the world of books and all that they have to offer. Books offer an array of pleasures and there are numerous reasons for people to engage with the written word. Whether you seek insight, challenge, inspiration, escapism, comfort, amusement or joy (and anything in between!): all of this may be found within the right book.
The Little Book Shop has an extensive and carefully curated range of books, covering all bases. Helping place the perfect book at the ideal time in your hands is our modus operandi.
The store is beautifully appointed, thoughtfully arranged, and authentically warm and welcoming. We are also blessed with a stylish, light-filled upstairs mezzanine which offers a perfect setting for book club events (your own or our hosted clubs), literary and non-literary events, writing groups, book readings (check out our website for details of regular children’s book readings), bridge and mah-jong sessions. We aspire to be a community hub; serving, supporting, and making connections within the broader local community.
The Little Book Shop welcomes you!
Meet the Team!
Justin Edgar - Owner
Unlike our talented team of aspiring writers and artists, I'm simply a bloke who loves books and everything they offer, and believes in the power of the bookstore to both inspire and foster a community. With a diverse background that includes a long tenure in the (sometimes) dastardly world of finance, a foray into education, a food manufacturer for five minutes, and a couple of other prevailing interests, The Little Book Shop is a long-anticipated realisation of a passion project waiting to take shape. We thoroughly look forward to becoming an integral part of the local landscape; a hub of community we aspire to be.

Books have always been my safe space or escape. I grew up on a diet of Beatrix Potter, Enid Blyton, Carolyn Keene, Jane Austen, and Agatha Christie. Uni then introduced me to some more literary greats and so it is no wonder that I chose to become an English teacher post studies. As a teacher, there was no greater thrill than marrying the right book to the right child and inspiring a lifelong love of reading. The twists and turns of life have now provided me with an opportunity to work as a bookseller at The Little Book Shop. This is a dream come true and I cannot wait to delve into the magical world of books with you.

At thirteen, I was given the The Lord of the Rings trilogy and became smitten, not just with the epic story, but the book itself: the wondrous illustrations, detailed maps, and elaborate typography. I next fell for Stephen King's spooky imagination, before a BA in Literature spurred flirtations with everything from Great Expectations to Midnight's Children. My infatuation with The Magus has lasted decades, but I didn't become sweet on Watership Down until I reached my forties. My latest crush is Graham Joyce's uniquely dark works. Finally, I hope that people will take a similar shine to my own writing one day.

I am a book devourer, and it’s been an addiction since childhood. I spent many scenic road trips with my nose stuck in a book much to my parents’ despair. My initial fascination with the tawny, scrawny, hungry lion and the magic faraway tree, developed into a teenage foray with Judy Blume, Nancy Drew and Ann Frank. I am mainly a reader of fiction after a long torturous degree in Speech and Hearing Therapy, after which I vowed to never pick up another journal article again. My current favourite authors are Alice Hoffman, Barbara Kingsolver, Frederik Backman and Markus Zusak. I currently work as a reflexologist alongside my part time job at The Little Book Shop. In my spare time I’m either reading or making art!

As a child I was an avid reader and, following a brief hiatus, I have really rediscovered the joys of reading. I am currently studying Chemistry at Auckland University and working part time as a bookseller at the wonderful Little Book Shop in Remuera. Books such as The Plague by Albert Camus and The Penguin Book of Japanese Short Stories list among my favourite recent reads.
